Why do we pay dues?

What are Union Dues?

Your union dues help with the cost of negotiating and servicing the contracts that protect members of Workers United and your Joint Board.

Union dues are also used to organize new members and protect the standards set by your contract.

Dues pay for the following:

  • Grievances and arbitration

  • Legislative representation

  • Contract negotiations

  • Legal counsel

  • Recruiting new members to strengthen our collective voice

  • Lobbying efforts

  • Administrative costs

Dues DO NOT pay for the following:

  • Your benefits, which are paid entirely by employer contributions, which are negotiated with the union.

  • Political campaign contributions. These contributions are made from a separate, voluntary fund run by the Political Action Committees of local joint boards and the international union.
